All iPhone battery capacities in one list

Have you ever noticed that in their marketing materials, Apple never reveals the technical specifications of the iPhone battery’s capacity?

Instead, they emphasize the practical time gained compared to previous generations with each new release. The exact specifications are only made known when independent companies, like iFixIt, take apart the device on launch day and reveal the hidden details. For those who want to know the exact mAh of their iPhone 7, 8, Plus, 11, X, or any other model, we have compiled a list of all the battery capacities for all models released to date for your reference. This article will be updated with each new model release, so you can always stay informed.

iPhone Battery Capacity

On Apple’s website, the device specifications are presented in a practical and user-friendly manner, even for those who are not tech-savvy. The website states that the iPhone battery lasts “up to 30 minutes longer compared to the iPhone X,” which is the information most users are interested in. However, if you’re curious about the nominal capacity of iPhone batteries, this article has got you covered.

Check the list below to find the iPhone model you’re interested in and view its respective capacity in mAh.

Battery life

The performance and battery life of a device depend not only on its physical capacity, but also on system optimization and processor efficiency. What does this mean? It means that sometimes the charging capacity may be lower on a model, but if its processor consumes less energy, the daily battery life will be longer. And Apple always strives to improve the internal architecture of its devices so that there is less power consumption, which directly affects battery life. The system also contributes to this. The great advantage of the same company producing both hardware and software is that this allows Apple to optimize iOS more and more for the capabilities and needs of the iPhone. That’s why the iPhone doesn’t need as much RAM to do the same thing as an Android device, and less RAM also means less power consumption.

For this reason, the battery capacity of the iPhone is relative. It cannot be directly compared to the capacities of Android devices, as the consumption is different. But of course, we all agree that Apple could easily put a little more battery in its devices, so we can use them for longer before having to look for a power outlet, right?

Battery health

It’s important to keep in mind that every battery has a limited lifespan and will degrade over time. Therefore, the capacities listed here are for brand new devices. The actual capacity will depend on how the device has been used. This means that the battery of an iPhone 7, for example, may not have the same capacity in 2022. The iOS system has a battery health indicator, which shows the degree of degradation it has experienced.

The indication of maximum capacity decreases gradually as the device is used. Once it drops below 80%, the system slows down to prevent unexpected shut-downs, even if there’s still some charge left. According to Apple, the iPhone battery can endure up to 500 charge cycles before reaching 80% capacity, but in reality, it often lasts even longer.

Therefore, it is ideal to replace your iPhone battery when it reaches a capacity of less than 80%. This way, you can extend its life and keep it functioning optimally for a longer period. Regardless of your battery’s current state, you can follow some tips to extend its life. Let’s take a look:

Apple iPhone XS Max

We purchased the Apple iPhone XS Max so our expert reviewer could thoroughly test and assess it. Keep reading for our full product review.

When Apple introduced the first iPhone X in 2017, it represented the new gold standard of iPhone experiences. But it wasn’t the largest device—it actually felt smaller than its predecessor, the iPhone 8 Plus—and fans of large phones were left wanting. The new iPhone XS Max, on the other hand, fully commits to the big screen experience.

Like the standard iPhone XS, the XS Max improves on the sleek and innovative design of the iPhone X by packing in more power and top-of-the-line features, bringing it all together behind a huge 6.5-inch OLED display. The phone is physically about the same size as the iPhone 8 Plus, but it has a significantly larger and more immersive screen, plus all of the modern flash of Apple’s latest smartphone aesthetic.

If there’s one thing that’s been consistent about the last few generations of iPhones, it’s price: these devices are always expensive. The iPhone XS Max, as the brand’s biggest and newest smartphone, may leave you with a serious case of sticker shock. So is this the super-sized smartphone to buy, or is the iPhone XS Max just downright excessive? We tested one so see if it lives up to the price tag.

Design: Premium but needs more grip

The iPhone XS Max doesn’t make any obvious changes to the iPhone X/XS design, aside from the expanded width and height. It’s a beautifully minimal handset, with glass on both sides and a stainless steel frame. It exudes the kind of premium allure that we’ve come to expect from Apple devices over the years.

And, as the “Max” name might imply, it’s a very large phone: at 6.2 inches tall and 3.05 inches wide (and just 0.3 inches thick), we consistently struggled to reach a large chunk of the top of the screen using just one hand. The XS Max also feels a bit heavy at 7.34 ounces—nearly half a pound—though the weight is well-distributed. (The smaller, lighter iPhone XS is a better fit for single-hand usage.) And because of the glass and stainless steel materials, the XS Max can feel a bit slippery in the hand. You might not feel inclined to cover up such an attractive and clearly high-end phone, but a case can go a long way towards improving your grip on the phone and give you some extra protection on that mostly-glass design.

The iPhone XS Max feels well-constructed and the glass is very durable and scratch-resistant, although the stainless steel quickly accumulates small scuffs and scrapes from everyday use. (Again, a case can help with this). The handset also has IP68 dust and water resistance and is rated to survive being submerged in up to two meters of water for a maximum of 30 minutes.

Sadly, there’s no way to add external storage to the iPhone XS Max via a microSD card. You can buy the phone in configurations with 64GB, 256GB, or 512GB internal storage, with a 150 price bump for each tier of additional space. It’s available in Space Grey, Silver, and a new Gold finish.

Setup Process: As streamlined as Apple’s aesthetic

The iPhone XS Max has a streamlined and easy-to-understand setup process. Once your SIM card is installed, you can power the phone on and potentially get through setup in a matter of minutes if you’re not downloading and installing a large backup from a previous phone. After connecting to a Wi-Fi network or your cellular provider, you can choose whether or not to enable location services before setting up Face ID.

Hold up the front-facing camera and Apple’s facial security system creates a 3D scan of your face. It then uses that image to verify your identity when you want to unlock your phone in the future. The phone will also prompt you to create a passcode to secure the device. From there, you’ll decide whether to set it up as a new phone using a new or existing Apple ID, restore from a backup via iCloud or your computer, or transfer data from an Android phone.

The iPhone XS Max is the biggest and best iPhone to date, but all of that gloss and power comes at a steep price.

iPhone Battery mAh List – Check Capacity Performance all Models

Despite having the most powerful iPhones in the market for over 3 months now, it is hard to say whether we’ve reached the level of peak smartphones yet or there’s still time for that tag to be presented to some iPhone model in the future. But it must be said that Apple made some remarkable changes to its flagship iPhone models and that the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max gives users the ultimate battery experience. This usually means that your iPhone will now last longer, charge faster, and drop battery slowly in comparison to its predecessors. If we’re talking in terms of iPhone battery mAh, then the iPhone 14 Pro 3200 mAh battery and the iPhone 14 Pro Max comes with a 4323 mAhbattery; which is awesome!

battery, iphone, performance, overview, model

But the surprising bit comes with the iPhone 14 Plus, which starts at Rs. 89,900, and has a 4325 mAh battery; the biggest and best battery backup that we have seen in an iPhone so far barring the iPhone 13 Pro Max. Safe to say, Apple is fulfilling its promise of delivering reasonably priced iPhones with the best battery backup.

But that’s just the case of the latest generation of iPhones in the market. What’s the story as we go behind or go back to a few yesteryear models. Stay tuned as we provide you with the latest iPhone battery mAh list – all the top Apple iPhone battery mAh data that can help you decide what iPhone suits your needs the best if not for the latest iPhone 14 series.

iPhone Battery Performance overviewModel Wise

Standby Performance is measured when the device is in ideal condition, display is not “always on” and location services are turned off. Stress performance is measured when device’s display is “always on” and video is played on any streaming app.

With the above-mentioned list, you can deduce that the iPhone battery capabilities vary from model to model and year to year and there’s no clear indication from Apple suggesting that all their future iPhone models will boast a better battery life. This can be reflected by comparing the iPhone 7 battery mAh and the iPhone 8 battery mAh. Where the iPhone 7 was boasting 2220 mAh, the successor model didn’t exactly get a promotion in terms of battery.

Similarly, the iPhone XR was an upgrade for the iPhone X but in comparison, the iPhone XR battery mAh(2950 mAh) was reduced by a small margin in comparison to the iPhone X battery mAh (3000 mAh).

But if we see the iPhone 7 battery mAh (2220 mAh) in comparison to the iPhone 7 Plus battery mAh (2900 mAh) then one can deduce that the Plus and Pro models – because of the device’s size – can boast of a better and longer battery performance than the base iPhone models.

Then again, if we put to test two pro models (that are relatively new), the iPhone 11 Pro Max battery mAh (3969 mAh) easily puts to bed its competitor and successor in iPhone 12 Pro Max. The iPhone 12 Pro Max battery mAh (3687 mAh) finds no upgrade where other things do as we shift from iPhone 11 series to iPhone 12 series. In comparison, the iPhone 12 Mini battery mAh (2227 mAh) legitimises the problem of space and the lack of a large battery in the mini models.

Stand-Out Devices

Even though a lot of the previous-year Apple iPhone models are becoming obsolete and most will not have the power of 5G enabled, there are still some worthy devices out there if we’re talking plainly about their battery and camera performance.

These are some of the recommended iPhone models in terms of battery life:

Of course the Apple iPhone 14 Pro Max, iPhone 14 Pro, and iPhone 14 Plus are the latest and the go-to options for people but if they’re thinking of shelling a few thousand bucks less, then the iPhone 13 Pro Max has the best battery life in comparison to all other iPhone models. It boasts a 4352 mAh battery, which is the best in the iPhones segment.

Apart from these, the following have a reasonable battery life in accordance with their current market price:

iPhone 6S Plus: even though a yesteryear iPhone, the 3500 mAh battery life was brilliant considering the phone was launched in 2015.

iPhone X: after a series of iPhones with an average battery life, iPhone X offered a 3000 mAh battery, which was quite a development.

iPhone 11 Pro iPhone 11 Pro Max: the iPhone 11 series took a new turn for the betterment of the new-age iPhones as iPhone 11 Pro Max offered a staggering 3969 mAh battery, where the iPhone 11 Pro also came with an impressive 3048 mAh battery.

iPhone 12 Pro Max: as mentioned earlier, the Pro Max models are the biggest in terms of display and overall size and the iPhone 12 Pro Max battery mAh (3687 mAh) is still impressive and quite good for the device.

iPhone 13: despite being the base model, the iPhone 13 offers a 3227 mAh battery and that’s great considering the sleek and slim size of the iPhone 13.

These were some of the takeaways after comparing all the iPhone battery capacities and their respective mAh or milliampere per hour of energy charge. You can make sure you revise this basic info before purchasing a new iPhone or going for a refurbished one.

Which iPhone Has The Best Battery Life?

If you want the best of the best when it comes to battery life, Apple’s iPhone 13 range, specifically the 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max, is 100% where it’s at – the new A15 chipset and larger battery sizes deliver the best battery performance ever seen inside an iPhone.

The iPhone 11 range represented the first time Apple has used 3000mAh batteries inside its iPhones. With the iPhone 13, Apple upped the ante once again, adding in 4000mAh batteries on the 13 Pro Max.

iPhone Battery Lifespan – How Long Do They Last?

Each iPhone battery has a lifespan; you get a certain amount of charges, and then things start to degrade.

Apple doesn’t offer up much information on this, however, though its most official statement on the subject claims after 13 months of use your iPhone’s battery life will have lost about 20% of its true potential.

iPhone batteries use Lithium-ion technology; the chemicals used in these types of batteries degrade over time. This is what is referred to as the battery’s lifespan.

The longer you use your iPhone, and the more you charge it from 0% to 100%, the shorter its lifespan becomes.

After years of this cycle, you will eventually have to replace the battery or get a new iPhone; the battery will no longer be able to perform properly.

It varies, but you will start to notice it after the three-year mark and from here it will get progressively worse until the phone dies completely.

“As lithium-ion batteries chemically age,” said Apple, “the amount of charge they can hold diminishes, resulting in shorter amounts of time before a device needs to be recharged. This can be referred to as the battery’s maximum capacity—the measure of battery capacity relative to when it was new. In addition, a battery’s ability to deliver maximum instantaneous performance, or “peak power,” may decrease.”

It added: “When the operations can no longer be supported with the full capabilities of the power management system, the system will perform a shutdown to preserve these electronic components. While this shutdown is intentional from the device perspective, it may be unexpected by the user.”

How To Replace iPhone Battery

If your iPhone’s lithium-ion battery dies, you can get it replaced. Apple recommends that you do it officially, via its battery replacement scheme.

If your iPhone is in warranty, there is no charge to replace the battery.

However, given the lifespan of lithium-ion batteries, this isn’t likely to be the case. Out of warranty, an iPhone battery replacement costs 69.

And to get it done, all you have to do is either visit an Apple Store or apply for it online.

What about third-party companies? You can use these to replace your iPhone’s battery life (or even do it yourself), but Apple DOES NOT recommend this.

Why? If something goes wrong your phone will be dead – and nothing will bring it back.

battery, iphone, performance, overview, model

For this reason, it’s probably worth taking the 69 hit and getting it done officially by Apple.

A third-party battery refit won’t be much cheaper anyway.

If you’re in a position where your iPhone has become unusable because of its battery life, and you don’t want to pay full price for a new iPhone, perhaps it’s time you considered looking at buying a refurbished iPhone – they’re 40% cheaper than normal!
