Power Bank Turns Off After 30 Seconds? (Here’s The Solution)
Sometimes when we try to charge a device, the power bank disconnects and turns off after 30 seconds. Why does this happen?
The power bank can turn off automatically if the current draw is too low. That means you are charging a device that requires less than 60mAh to be charged.
The power bank can also turn off without any reason. So, turn off and on the power bank and try again. If that doesn’t work then check out some other fixes down below.
Why Does Power Bank Turn Off While It Charges Another Device?
Here are some reasons why your power bank is turning off, and their fixes:
You Are Not Loading It With Enough Power
A lot of people don’t know that power banks have a mAh/current limit. The minimum limit of most power banks is 50-60mAh. If you charge a device that requires less than 50-60mAh, the power bank thinks you are not using it or that the device is full so it automatically stops.
To fix this, you can connect a LED light or anything small together with the device you are charging to increase the mAh so the power bank can stay on. You can also buy a power bank that doesn’t come with a minimum limit, or if your power bank has a “keep on” settings then you should turn it on.
The reason this happens is because a power bank charges with 3 different current (I): high, medium, low. When the device is almost fully charged the current (I) levels drop to ‘low’, when the device is fully charged the current (I) levels drop even more. When the current (I) levels are too low the power bank “thinks” the device is fully charged so it automatically stops charging to avoid overcharging.
That’s why when you connect a device that doesn’t need too much current (I), the power bank stops as it thinks the device is fully charged.
The ICU is Faulty
Power banks have an internal control unit (ICU) that controls the current levels in the device. Once it detects a USB connection, this circuit starts charging a device.
But, if the ICU is faulty then it won’t be able to control the current (I) nor detect a USB connection. When that happens, the power bank automatically turns off as it thinks no device is being charged. To fix it, you have to send it to a local electronic repair.
Failing Battery
Lithium batteries come with a certain number of charging cycles. Most power banks have up to 500 charging cycles.
A charging cycle is completed when you use the power bank from 100-0% and recharge it back to 100%. If you use a power bank daily, that means it will be good for approximately 1.5-2 years.
When the battery completes its charging cycles, it will die quicker and you have to charge it more frequently. The battery will keep losing more charging capacity as you use it.
So, if the battery has lost all charging capacity the power bank will automatically turn off. Sometimes, the power bank won’t even turn on. To fix this, you have to replace the battery or buy a new power bank.
The Power Bank Isn’t Charged
If you haven’t used the power bank for a few months, and now you are trying to use it, most likely the power bank isn’t charged enough. Power banks lose up to 2% per month due to self-discharge. If the power bank isn’t charged, it won’t be able to charge other devices.
To know if the power bank is charged, check the LED lights. If no light turns on, the device isn’t charged, if all 4 lights turn on the device is fully charged. To fix this, charge the power bank for 30 minutes and then try to charge a device.
These are the most common reasons your power bank is turning off after 30 seconds. However, if the tips above didn’t help you, here are some more:
- Check The Charging Cable – If you have a low-quality cable, or if the cable moves easily then it accidentally disconnects from the device. To fix this, clean the charging ports or replace the charging cable.
- The Power Bank is Overheating – If you use the device for too long it can overheat. Most power banks come with protection circuits that will automatically turn off the device if it gets too hot. To fix this, let the power bank rest for a few hours and try again.
- Power Bank is Damaged – If you accidentally drop the power bank or you stored it in a hot temperature environment, then that can cause a negative effect on the power bank. You will need to send it to a local electronic repair.
Why Does Power Bank Turn Off While It’s Being Charged?
While it isn’t very common for the power bank to turn off while charging, it can happen. Most of the time, the problem is the charger. Here are some things you should check:
- Check if the charger is working. Test the same charge on different devices, or use a different charger to see if it charges your power bank.
- If the charger is fine, then you need to clean the charging ports. Take out any dirt or debris that you can find. Do this carefully as you might damage the charging ports.
- Make sure that the charger doesn’t wiggle.
If the device still turns off after changing the charging cable, then the device could be full so it automatically stops to avoid overcharging. If none of these work, then you have to send the power bank for repair.

If you’re considering buying this for someone as a gift, you might like to know that the Zendure SuperTank Pro packaging is attractive and would be lovely to give or receive. It looks stylish and feels premium. The hard-sided protection case is also exceptionally well made and mimics the device’s build quality, not that the tough anodized aluminum shell needs much protection.
On receiving the Zendure SuperTank pro and removing the postal courier packaging, we were wowed by the professional-looking finish of the external packaging. Every little detail has been thought about. It is stylish and informative. When we slid the cover off, the device lying inside is thoughtfully packaged and gave the feeling of being a premium, top-quality product.

Its aluminum shell denotes its tough and rugged demeanor, while still remaining elegant. There has been no expense spared in making this look and feel like a well-built, excellent-quality product. The design can be likened to a hard luggage case, which denotes the idea of being a handy travel companion. We would have liked some little rubber feet or strips to stop the power bank from sliding around on flat surfaces, especially when inside a vehicle that’s in motion.
Included in the hard shell case, where the SuperTank pro sits, is a USB-A adaptor, something which is still incredibly useful, but ignored by some brands. There is also a USB-C to USB-C cable, a little booklet giving warranty information, a small user manual and a range of stickers to stick on your kit bag or camper window. All the extra ‘bits’ also fit inside the case behind a netting, again, much like you’d find in a suitcase, to ensure you don’t lose anything.
This power bank is, as the name suggests, tank-like. Its size and weight (567g) make it feel like you are carrying a small brick around with you. It’s not a power bank for carrying on a long trek in your backpack, but something to keep in your car, with your other astro kit, in your motor home or in your house as a central power station for charging multiple devices at once.

When we received the Supertank Pro, it arrived with 41% charge. We were really impressed with how quickly it charges — on paper, it charges from 0% to 100% in less than two hours using the 100W USB-C Power Delivery Input, but when we plugged it in, within just over half an hour, we had 100% charge — excellent, and better than the stats suggest.
The OLED screen has an accurate display, indicating exactly how much time remains to reach 100% charge. It also tells you exactly how much power is entering (or leaving) the device. To date, this is the fastest charging device we have reviewed.
To test the 100W output, we plugged into our Samsung Galaxy Book laptop which had 25% battery remaining. Within one hour of heavy laptop use, it had still gained 40% charge, while leaving 50% charge in the power bank.
Zendure SuperTank Pro: Functionality

The Zendure SuperTank Pro has a massive 26,800 mAh capacity, just under the maximum limit of what you are allowed to carry as hand luggage on a flight. Handy if you’re traveling by air to a dark sky area.
The OLED screen gives real-time power transfer information for each of the four ports. When power banks only have an LED indicator (e.g., four light-up bars) to show the remaining power, it is a bit of a guessing game whether you have 25% charge or 2% charge remaining. This ambiguity is completely removed thanks to the screen, so you’ll never be left in the dark. Being able to see the power transfer into the SuperTank Pro and into your devices also gives you an indication of the efficiency of your charging cables.
You might be concerned that the Zendure SuperTank Pro only has USB-C outputs, but luckily, Zendure thought ahead and included a small adaptor so your USB-A cables can still be used to charge your legacy devices.
Finally, this thing is future-proof in the form of firmware upgrades — yes, firmware upgrades for a power bank! Upgrading the firmware on the Zendure Power Bank is a relatively straightforward process and should take just a few minutes to complete. All you need to do is connect the power bank to your computer via a USB cable and then download and install the latest firmware from the official Zendure website.
Should you buy the Zendure SuperTank Pro?
We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend the Zendure SuperTank Pro as part of your astronomy or photography kit bag, or for keeping in your car or camper as a reliable source of extra power if you find you need some juice in your devices. For overnighting at a festival or going off the grid for a couple of nights it should keep your devices topped up (obviously depending on how much you have to charge). It isn’t cheap, but you’re paying for excellent build quality, the biggest capacity allowed in your hand luggage and peace of mind knowing exactly where you stand in terms of how much power you have left.
The only time we would advise against this product is if you plan on using a power bank for trekking or a multi-day hike where you will be carrying it for a long time. At over half a kilo, that’s a noticeable amount of weight added to your rucksack and it isn’t waterproof.
If the Zendure SuperTank Pro isn’t for you:
For a much lighter battery that would be suitable for long walks, and has the added bonus of being a handwarmer, give the Celestron Elements FireCel Mega 6 a try. While it has much less capacity (6000 mAh v 26,800 mAh), it might be just what you’re looking for if you need something small and rugged (it’s waterproof) for treks and hikes.
Another option would be a BioLite Charge PD power bank, which is available with three different capacities, the biggest being 20,000 mAh and weighing much, much less than the Zendure. They are no-frills power banks that can charge devices up to 18W and up to three times faster than a standard 5W charger.
