The unit is able to detect deeply discharged lead-acid batteries, discharged even down to 2V(!), and successfully start the main engine.
However, if the battery is discharged even below 2V (cell reversal?!), NOCO Boost Plus GB40 will not start the engine UNLESS the user manually overrides the battery detection. this override also disables safety features and it is very important to emphasize that this should be done only in an absolute emergency and only by users that know what they are doing. After all, its integrated 100-lumen LED flashlight features seven light modes, including emergency strobe and SOS.

NOCO Boost Plus GB40 comes with a 1-year warranty.

Noco Boost Plus GB40 Review – Why Lithium-ion Batteries Are So Efficient
Traditional lead acid battery boosters are no match for the Lithium-ion powered Noco Boost. The first portable battery packs to hit the market were manufactured with lead acid batteries. Nowadays, mostly large heavy-duty packs use lead acid batteries. While both are capable of boosting a car battery, lithium-ion powered battery packs are the future because they are able to deliver more power in a much smaller and lighter design.
Lithium-ion is taking over the technology world. Just think, our cellphones and laptops have become a lot smaller, lighter, and are able to last for several hours on a single charge thanks to lithium batteries. It was only a matter of time before this revolutionary technology usher out lead acid boosters which are considered the “grandfather” of portable battery packs.
When it comes to the energy density in volume, most standard lithium battery packs are able to deliver four times more power than a lead acid battery pack in just a fraction of the space. The self-discharge rate of lithium-powered packs is also noteworthy.
All batteries leak during their shelf life, but the rated discharge matters when you are searching for a reliable battery pack. Lithium-ion booster packs have a discharge rate of 3%-5% of it’s charge each month while a lead acid battery pack can discharge up to 15% each month.
Lead acid batteries are high-maintenance which isn’t ideal for the driver that’s always on the go. Battery packs that use this type of battery lose charge rather quickly and have to be regularly charged if they are going to be useful. The Noco Boost Plus can hold a charge for over 12 months with minimal power loss.
You can expect to pay a bit more money for a portable battery pack that uses a lithium-ion battery. Most automotive experts will agree that it’s definitely worth the cost.
Performance
At first blush, the Noco Genius Boost doesn’t seem powerful enough to start up a big car, but just like the BEATIT G18 Jumpstarter, it is capable of waking up a 6.0-liter gas powered vehicle as well as a 3-liter diesel engine without much strain. It’s jumper cables are not quite as long, but then again, when you’re under your car’s hood you won’t need them to be. Inside the Boost plus GB40 is an ultrasafe lithium battery that is powerful enough for up to 20 jumpstarts with one charge. To keep it that powerful all through, you want to make sure that you get it well charged (for 3 hours) after each use.
The Noco Genius Boost jump starter can best be described as lightweight and compact. It weighs about 2.7 pounds, and compared to other jump starters like the Clore Automotive Jump-n-Carry JNC660, it is pretty small. The battery booster comes with a 4-level LED battery charge indicator, 2 USB ports and an LED flashlight. In terms of build quality, the GB40 portable lamp comes with a rubberized casing to keep it’s surfaces scratch free, and a 4 LED indicators that let you know how much energy its battery has in store.
Value
For added convenience, the Noco GeniusBoost jump starter also comes with a bright 100 Lumen LED flashlight that you can use in case you’re trying to revive a dead battery in the middle of the night. Plus, when you have great lights for your garage so you can find it easier. Car users will also benefit from its reverse polarity protection feature in case you get the terminals mixed up, and once done jumpstarting, it’ll need to be left charging for up to 3 hours until it is back up to full capacity. It’s not as light as the TACKLIFE T8 800A, but the ultrasafe lithium jump starter is still very easy to handle or carry around.
