There are a lot of factors to consider when shopping for home EV charging equipment for your electric vehicle. You certainly want to make sure you’re buying a unit from a reputable company, that the unit is safety certified, has a good warranty, and is built to last many years.
However, one of the most important considerations is: How powerful of a charging station do you need? Most battery-electric vehicles (BEVs) available today can accept between 40 to 48-amps while charging from a level 2, 240-volt source. However, there are charging stations available today that can deliver more power, and some that can deliver far less, so deciding how many amps you need for your EV charger might seem a little confusing.
There are four main questions you should consider before purchasing your home EV charging equipment.
How much power can your EV accept?
Electric vehicles are limited to accepting a certain amount of electricity which will be listed in either amperage (amps) or kilowatt (kW). All EVs have onboard chargers, which convert the electricity they receive in the form of alternating current (AC) to direct current (DC) which is how it is stored in the vehicle’s battery.
The power of the onboard charger dictates how much AC power the vehicle can accept. Some EVs have more powerful onboard chargers than others, and they range in power from 16-amps (3.7 kW) up to 80-amps (19.2kW). Therefore, the first thing you need to consider is how much power can your EV accept.
How many miles do you usually drive?
Most Americans drive about 40 miles per day. With home EV charging, you only need to replenish the miles you drove that day because you can plug in every night when you arrive home. Therefore, it’s a good idea to know what your daily and weekly driving needs are, because you can probably get by just fine with a home charger that delivers much less power than your EV is capable of accepting.
If you do use a lower-powered home charger and occasionally need more range for a long trip, you can access public DC fast chargers to rapidly charge up for the long drive.
How much power is available at your home?
Your home has a limited supply of electricity, and you may not have enough available power to install a high-powered dedicated circuit for the EV charger without an expensive service upgrade.
You should always have an electrician perform a load calculation of your service before purchasing your EV, so you know if you can install a home charger, and if so, what is the maximum amperage it can deliver.
What is your EV charger budget?
Besides the cost of any possible electric service upgrades, you may need to install the dedicated EV charging circuit, you also need to consider the cost of the charger. Electric vehicle charging equipment can cost as little as 200, and it can also cost up to 2,000, depending on how powerful the unit is and what features it offers.
You should decide what you can and are willing to pay for the charger and installation before searching for a charger. Talk to your electrician about the difference in cost to install the charger based on how many amps it will deliver.
Lower-powered chargers should cost less to install because the thinner wire as well as the less-powerful circuit breaker will cost less than what is required for higher-powered chargers.

While you may be just getting your first electric vehicle, it surely won’t be your last. The entire industry is in the early years of transitioning to EVs while internal combustion is being phased out. Therefore, it makes sense to consider down the road when you may have two EVs in the garage.
If you have the budget to install a high-powered circuit for charging now, it’s probably the right decision, even if your current EV cannot accept all the power the circuit can deliver. In a few years, you may need to charge two EVs at once, and the single high-powered circuit can power two EV chargers, and ultimately save you the expense of installing a second, lower-powered circuit.

A PHEV combines a gas engine and an electric motor powered by a battery that can be recharged by plugging it in. With a plug-in hybrid vehicle, you can drive using all-electric power, the gas engine or a combination of both.
The Level I 120-volt charger can be fully recharged in approximately 14 hours. You can shorten the time and charge your vehicle in as little as 2 hours by using an available Level II 240-volt charger. However, the estimated charging times are based on a completely discharged high-voltage battery. Charging times will vary based on various factors including the age, condition, state of charge, available current being provided to the charger from its energy source and temperature of the high-voltage battery.
The Jeep Wrangler 4xe and Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid come equipped with a Level I charger, so you don’t have to purchase one. But if you’re looking for a faster charge time, you can purchase a Level II 240-volt charger through Mopar.com or your local Chrysler or Jeep Brand dealership.

Refund Policy
Exchange Policy EV charging accessories have many different options and variations. To cater for the eventuality that you have in error selected an incorrect product, EV Extras offers a free exchange policy in the first 30 days from purchase. On receipt of the return we will issue the alternate product. After 30 days, we only replace items if they are defective or damaged. If you need to exchange it for the same item, send us an email to sales@ev-extras.com. Returns Our policy lasts 30 days. Unfortunately, we cannot offer you a refund or exchange if 30 days have expired. To be eligible for a return, your item must be unused and in the same condition that you received it.
Firstly, you should email sales@ev-extras.com to advise us of the return and the reason why. We require a receipt or proof of purchase, your name, address and the order number. Secondly, you should send the item back in its original packaging with a copy of the email detailing your name, address and order number to EV Extras Returns, 8 Holly Court, Nottingham NG9 3DZ A partial refund may be given if the item is not in its original condition, is damaged or missing parts for reasons not due to our error. Please do not send your purchase back to the manufacturer.
Refunds Once your return is received and inspected, we will send you an email to notify you that we have received your returned item. We will also notify you of the approval or rejection of your refund. If you are approved, then your refund will be processed and a credit will automatically be applied to your credit card or original method of payment.
Late or missing refunds If you haven’t received a refund yet, first check your bank account again. Then contact your credit card company, it may take some time before your refund is officially posted. Next contact your bank. There is often some processing time before a refund is posted. If you’ve done all of this and you still have not received your refund, please contact sales@ev-extras.com.
Gifts If the item was marked as a gift when purchased and shipped directly to you, you’ll receive a gift credit for the value of your return. Once the returned item is received, a gift certificate will be mailed to you.
If the item wasn’t marked as a gift when purchased, or the gift giver had the order shipped to themselves to give to you later, we will send a refund to the gift giver.

Installation can be completed by most certified electricians. Keep in mind that there are two types of installations that correspond with our electric vehicle charging station options. This includes a plug-in model, which uses a standard NEMA 14-50 outlet, or a hardwired version, which must be directly fastened to the circuit without using a traditional plug. FAQ
You will need a Wi-Fi connection to use JuiceBox’s Smart charging features, such as power monitoring, scheduling, and reminders. In areas without a reliable Wi-Fi connection, you can use a JuiceRouter to provide reliable LTE-to-Wi-Fi connectivity for up to 16 stations within a 150’ radius. In the absence of Wi-Fi, your JuiceBox will act as a standard charging unit, and any schedules or limits you set when connected to Wi-Fi will remain, even if the JuiceBox is no longer connected to Wi-Fi. We highly recommend connecting your JuiceBox to Wi-Fi, but your car will be charged even if you cannot connect.
JuiceBox supports the J1772 connector standards used by all major EV manufacturers for Level 2 EV charging stations in North America and can therefore charge any EV on the market. Tesla drivers can charge with a JuiceBox via an adapter commonly owned and used by Tesla drivers.
With the JuiceNet Smart charging platform, you can use the load balancing feature to cap your overall electricity consumption and control demand charges to reduce your energy bills. And, by controlling your load through software, you can expand your EV charging operations without expensive infrastructure upgrades.
