What is the Best Capacity of MagSafe Battery Pack?

Apple has introduced a MagSafe technology that provides a magnetic connection between accessories, such as a wallet, case, removable battery pack, etc. Since the launch of the iPhone 12, Apple has doubled down its technology. Today several different MagSafe compatible chargers can magnetically attach to your iPhone 12 and iPhone 13, which gives us a lot of options. These chargers enable you to go wireless and charge your phones on the go. These chargers vary in their capacities and the price depends on their features. Some chargers tend to charge your iPhone faster than others, while others may not.

Apple has launched the MagSafe Battery Pack, but they have less capacity and are more expensive. Therefore, it would be best to go with a third-party charger. In this article, we have shared a complete guide on what you can expect from a MagSafe Battery pack. over, at the end of the article, we have shared our top picks and recommendations for a power pack, so you can buy the most suitable one according to your budget.

Here are some features you need to look for while buying a MagSafe Battery Pack:

  • Capacity:We know that the capacity of a charger is the amount of charge that can be carried and delivered through a battery pack. The higher the capacity, the more efficiently it will charge your iPhone. Usually, a portable battery with 5,000mAh can almost fully charge your phone.
  • Size:The size of the battery pack is the bulk and it does not alter its capacity or performance. It is important to consider the size of the battery because it can add extra bulk to your iPhone 12 or 13. over, bigger batteries can take up more space at the back of your phone and they sometime might block the camera.
  • Recharging ability:Almost all portable batteries can charge your phone. However, how you charge them differs. Some of these chargers support wireless charging, so you can place your phone on a wireless pad. Some support reverse charging which means you can recharge your phone via lightning. The charging method where you can have a separate USB wired connection is a little cheaper but less convenient.
  • Special Features:Not all MagSafe portable batteries have the same abilities, as most of them have some special features. For instance, if an Apple Control Center works perfectly for your iPhone and can be changed into a high-speed MagSafe charger when turned it is connected to power. Others chargers also come with extra ports so you can add as many devices to charging. However, the more features you add the higher the prices.
  • Interaction with other MagSafe accessories:The MagSafe battery pack can be attached to an iPhone or with a case that is MagSafe compatible. If you have a leather phone case, Apple warns the users that the case might show some imprints and it is normal. However, if you want to avoid the imprint, you should not use a leather case. Apple’s MagSafe Battery Pack: What You Need to Know? Should You Buy It?

Since the debut of the iPhone 12 and MagSafe in 2020, we’ve been waiting for Apple to launch a MagSafe compatible Smart Battery Case. In a surprise announcement last week, Apple instead introduced a MagSafe Battery Pack for the iPhone 12 lineup, sparking discussions on many of its features, including capacity and size.

Let’s look in detail at the new Apple accessory and if it’s worth it.

What’s the Battery Capacity?

Most people care about the capacity of a power bank or how much charge it can offer a mobile phone. Power banks tend to be measured in milliampere hour (mAh).

The MagSafe Battery Pack’s capacity is 1460mAh, which may be disappointing to quite a few people, since the battery size of the iPhone 12 mini is already a compact 2227mAh. Does this mean that the battery pack can’t even offer one full charge of the smallest iPhone 12 model?

At a glance, it may seem that way; however, to find the battery’s actual capacity, you also need to look at its voltage.

Standard power bank batteries work at a voltage of between 3.6-3.8V. The MagSafe Battery Pack has almost double the voltage at 7.62V, indicating that there are probably two parallel battery cells connected inside the MagSafe Battery Pack.

So its total battery capacity is actually 2920mAh.

Again, this doesn’t tell us much about what the MagSafe power bank can do for your iPhone 12. For this we need to find the Watt-hour (Wh) using the calculation Ah x V = Wh. You can find Ah (ampere hour) by dividing mAh by 1000 (mAh / 1000 = Ah).

Watt-hour is a much better way to calculate battery storage and tells us how long a battery will last.

MagSafe Battery Pack has a Watt-hour capacity of 11.13Wh.

The iPhone 12 mini’s battery capacity is 8.57Wh, the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro 10.75Wh, and 14.13Wh for iPhone 12 Pro Max.

On paper, it should charge the three of the smaller iPhone 12 batteries, but this doesn’t take energy loss into consideration. The MagSafe Battery Pack will probably charge mini to approximately 90% and between 50-60% for the larger models.

How Fast Will It Charge?

Using the MagSafe Battery Pack on the go charges your iPhone 12 at speeds of 5W. However, when you have the power bank plugged into a 20W or higher power adapter, the portable charger offers up to 15W (12W for iPhone 12 mini).

How About Pass-through and Reverse Charging?

To charge the MagSafe Battery Pack, you simply plug it into a power adapter using the Lightning port. If the MagSafe Battery Pack is attached to your iPhone, it will charge the mobile phone first, then the power bank.

If you plug the power source into your iPhone 12, then both devices charge together.

Will There Be Overheating Issues?

While some have expressed concerns about iPhone overheating during charging, several built-in safety features are protecting your device.

Second, the MagSafe Battery Pack will only charge your iPhone at 5W when you’re on the go. The slower charging speed reduces heat build-up, although if you charge your iPhone with the MagSafe Charger, the rate jumps to 15W.

All in all, it’s not much different from a wireless charger except that it’s magnetic. MagSafe uses auto-alignment, so it’s also less likely to generate unnecessary heat from improper alignment.

Does the MagSafe Battery Pack Work With iPhones That Have A Case?

The device was designed to attach directly to your iPhone or with a MagSafe case.

Other cases without MagSafe should not interrupt charging or magnetic attachment as long as they’re thin enough. The thicker the case, the less efficient charging will be, and the weaker the magnetic force.

Measuring Charging Status

There aren’t any LEDs or a screen showing the battery’s power level. However, if you’re running iOS 14.7 or later, you’ll be able to see how much juice your power bank has left on your iPhone screen.

If your widget shows it’s only charging to 90%. adjust your settings in the Control Center by turning off Low Power Mode.

Judging from the photos on the Apple website and data from those who’ve received the device, the MagSafe Battery Pack is about the same width as the iPhone 12 mini, 64.2mm, with a length of 95.8mm and thickness of 11.28mm. It weighs about 113.8g.

In addition, the back of the power bank has a soft grey cloth cover that can absorb the force of the iPhone’s glass back when you snap the MagSafe Battery Pack onto it.

Is It Worth It?

The MagSafe Battery Pack doesn’t have the edge over many other competitors regarding battery capacity and price. You can easily find alternatives with double the power for half of what Apple is charging.

That said, it has its benefits. First, it’s genuine MagSafe, so the iPhone integration is top-notch. Only the MagSafe Battery Pack can provide 15W charging for the iPhone 12 lineup, as well as offering pass-through and reverse wireless charging to charge your iPhone 12 and your Airpods. Its portability means it’s perfect for a day out where there won’t be anywhere to charge your phone.

If you are faithful to the Apple ecosystem and have the budget, the MagSafe Battery Pack is not a bad choice. However, if you are looking for a power bank to charge your phone whenever you want it, the MagSafe Battery Pack might not suit you.

Apple MagSafe Battery Pack Alternative

The PITAKA MagEZ Battery Pack is slightly smaller than Apple MagSafe Battery Pack but with more battery capacity, up to 4,000mAh. Crafted from durable aramid fiber with an ergonomic design, the power bank is unique and comfortable to hold.

If you are that kind of person who often forget to charge your power bank, then you can use the MagEZ Slider 2. The versatile 3-in-1 wireless charger comes with a MagEZ Battery Pack. When you don’t use the power bank, slide it into the specific base to charge and store it. So when you need it, the power bank is fully charged for your adventure.

Jetpack is small and light. I dont usually carry a big bag around with this is perfect. It fits on the back of my iPhone perfectly and because the magnets are so strong, it doesnt move at all! I love this power bank.

If youre looking for a new power bank, Jetpack is seriously the way to go. The magnets are so strong, so when you stick it on the back of your phone it doesnt move at all! It is also quite small, so it doesnt cover your iPhone camera or hang off the edge of your phone, which is great. Lastly, it charges my phone super quickly, which is very convenient.

I have never seen a power bank that lets you charge your phone both with and without a cable, it is great!

Jetpack is the best wireless charger Ive tried. It allows you to recharge your phone using a cable or wirelessly, which is super handy. The wireless charging took a little bit longer to charge my phone, but overall it worked well.

I am extremely impressed with Jetpack. The magnetic feature is convenient and effective. My other magnetic power bank would slide off, but the Jetpack stayed on my iPhone for hours without moving!

The Jetpack is light and perfect for a day out! The power bank recharges my phone with a cable or wirelessly, and I dont have to worry about dealing with a dead phone all day!

Best alternatives to the Power Bank with Apple MagSafe

Apple recently surprised us with the launch of a new accessory to complement all users who own an iPhone 12: the MagSafe Battery Packs. The main drawback of this portable battery, and for what it has been most criticized so far, is its high price. If you would like to get one of these accessories but your budget is much tighter, today we bring you some of the best alternatives to the Power Bank with Apple MagSafe.

MagSafe Battery Pack: Apple‘s Power Bank

First of all, and in case there was someone clueless in the room, you should know this MagSafe Battery Pack from Apple well.

As we have already told you, it is an external battery whose benefits are directly supported by two features of the iPhone 12:

  • Wireless charging.
  • MagSafe technology: If you didn’t already know, the family of the latest iPhones presented by the company have magnetism on the back. In turn, both wireless chargers and this same portable battery also have the same technology. Therefore, by bringing both elements closer together, they would be strongly coupled to the phone, allowing it to transmit power to it without it being easily disconnected.

You can learn how these technologies work in our reviews of these phones that we publish on YouTube:

Other technical characteristics that this new Apple battery has are the following:

  • Ability to 1.460 mAh.
  • On its own, it charges an iPhone with a power of 5W wireless charging. And when connected to a 20W or higher power source, it can charge up to 15W of power just like a normal Qi base.
  • It can be charged via a lightning cable. Apple recommends doing it with a 20 W connector, although it indicates that we can also do it with a 27 W connector.
  • Es compatible with the entire family of the new iPhone 12.
  • It is only available in one color and one size.

These last two features mean that, as you can imagine, it will occupy more or less volume on the back of the phone depending on the model we have.

Two have been most criticized aspects by users about this new accessory from the Apple company. On the one hand, seeing its capacity of 1.460 mAh, which will not be able to give a single charge even to the iPhone 12 mini, leaving the charge percentages like this:

And on the other, probably the most notorious as usual, is the price. If you want to get one of the new MagSafe Battery Pack you will have to pay 109 euros.

Best MagSafe Power Bank For the iPhone 14

If you’ve been an iPhone user for a while, then you know that MagSafe charging is becoming a staple feature on new models. And if you’re looking for a good and reliable MagSafe charger, then you’ve come to the right place. We’ve done the research and found the Best MagSafe Power Bank For the iPhone 14 (or for any MagSafe compatible device).

So, whether you’re looking for a fast charger or one that can charge your phone wirelessly, we’ve got you covered. Below is a Top 5 list of the Best MagSafe Power Banks for the iPhone 14.

iPhone 14 Update – We’ve tried each battery bank in our test group against the iPhone 14 and this list still stands.

Best MagSafe Power Bank For the iPhone 14 (and iPhone 12/13)

For this Top 5 list, we based our scoring on:

  • Battery Capacity – Stated vs. Rated vs. Tested
  • Strength of the magnets – Measured the amount of force required to remove battery pack from iPhone
  • Size and weight – General dimensions
  • Charge speeds – Timed how long it took to charge an iPhone 13 in 10% increments
  • Extra features – Anything else that made our lives easier.

Out of the 12 chargers that we tested, notable products that didn’t make the Top 5 include battery packs from Logixx, Apple and Pitaka.

#5 Spigen ArcHybrid MagSafe Battery Pack

The Spigen ArcHybrid MagSafe Battery Pack is an incredibly…average product. The 5000 mAh charger has a rated capacity of 3600 which is generally close to our tests. The LED indicators make it easy to check the battery levels, and the wireless charging function coupled with the pass-through charging makes it convenient to top-off multiple devices at the same time.

The magnetic strength of the Spigen ArcHybrid MagSafe Battery Pack is better than average, keeping the charger on the iPhone from most mild bumps.

From a charging perspective, the Spigen ArcHybrid MagSafe Battery Pack offers 7.5W of wireless charging which oddly enough, puts it in the middle of the pack in terms of charge speed.

For this round of testing, the Spigen ArcHybrid MagSafe Battery Pack was actually faster than Apple’s own MagSafe Charger. Charging the battery pack from dead to full took about 2.5 hours.

#4 AOGuerbe 10000 mAh power bank

AOGuerbe 10000 mAh power bank is one of the cheaper products in this list at 50. This might sound as a steal at first glance but there are a lot of caveats in this product.

First of all, the magnetic connection of the battery pack isn’t as great as other products. It’s actually missing the lower magnet. It looks like it’s there but it isn’t. Which means the battery pack is going to rotate on your phone.

AOGuerbe 10000 mAh power bank is also the biggest battery pack we reviewed and the one that feels the cheapest made. The seams feel quite rough and the MagSafe rings sit too far up on the battery pack. AOGuerbe 10000 mAh power bank looks ridiculous when mounted on the iPhone 12 or 13 mini.

However, AOGuerbe 10000 mAh power bank does have some extra features and charging speeds that makes them worthy of their spot. It had one of the faster charge times. The power bank outputs 15W’s for wireless charging so your iPhone will recognize it as a MagSafe charger and it can pass through charge through the USB-A and C ports. Which means you can charge your older Apple Watch and iPad’s if you wanted to. It also has a digital readout to tell you how much charge is in the pack.
