Anker’s PowerCore III Wireless power bank feels like an old, reliable option. It’s neither the largest nor the fastest, yet it can juice three devices at a time with proprietary PowerIQ technology. Anker is a leader in charging accessories which makes the PowerCore III Wireless a safe, if uninspiring, bet.
The smartphone accessories market is a crowded one, yet some names stand out among the crowd. Whether it’s Spigen for cases or Moment for camera accessories, certain brands have become established as a marker for quality. Anker is another example, and it has perfectly cornered the charging market. With powerful wireless chargers and power banks to choose from, let’s check out the best of both worlds. This is our Anker PowerCore III Wireless power bank review.
What you need to know about the Anker PowerCore III Wireless power bank
Anker’s PowerCore lineup covers the full range of power banks, but today we’re looking at a 10,000mAh option. The PowerCore III Wireless packs a USB-A port and a USB-C port, but the key selling point is its Qi charging pad. It tops out at 18W wired charging through the USB-C port, while the pad is capable of up to 10W output.
Anker keeps things pretty light inside the packaging, with minimal paperwork to worry about. You’ll also find a USB-C cable and a lightly padded black carrying bag to keep your power bank safe. The bag is just barely large enough for the power bank and cable, though you’ll have to shove the cable carefully down the side.
What’s good?
Anker’s PowerCore III Wireless power bank is a true do-it-all option. You can recharge up to three devices at a time, making a significant difference on long road trips or if you’re stuck away from an outlet. I found myself turning to the Qi charging pad frequently, especially when I needed to give my Galaxy Buds a quick jolt.
Overall, the PowerCore III Wireless power bank is capable of decent, if not incredible, charging speeds. The USB-C port packs Anker’s proprietary PowerIQ 3.0 charging, which supports USB Power Delivery and PowerIQ 2.0 in a single port at up to 18W. PowerIQ 2.0 places an emphasis on Quick Charge devices, so you should have no problem charging a full range of USB-C-toting products. Anker’s power bank also offers passthrough charging so you can get your phone back to speed while you wait for the power bank to charge.
The drawstring charging pouch is a nice touch, especially when it comes to transporting the power bank. It can be easy to scratch some types of plastic, so the pouch offers a little peace of mind. The included USB-C cable is just under two feet long, the perfect length for a power bank. It’s long enough to give you some flexibility, yet short enough that it won’t get caught on stray corners in your house.
What’s not so good?
The PowerCore III Wireless performs best when it can FOCUS on one device at a time. Unfortunately, I found that speeds plummeted when I used both outputs simultaneously. Despite seeing 14W speeds with either the USB-A or USB-C ports, I could only reach 8W speeds while using both. It didn’t seem to matter which port I tested, as speeds were consistent across the pair.
While the single-device charging speeds are decent, charging multiple devices seems to cap output at 8W per port.

The PowerCore III Wireless also did not offer enough power from the USB-A port to recharge a laptop — in the case of my testing, a Surface Laptop 3. While I could pick up a charge from the USB-C port, I could only achieve speeds in the neighborhood of 8.5W — a far cry from the 18W peak speeds. Some of the speed issues may be due to Anker’s lack of USB PD PPS support. While it’s not that common in ~50 power banks, it’s a must if you want to charge a modern Galaxy flagship or the Pixel 6 series at close to top speeds.
You can check out my charging results in the table below, and all tests were performed with Anker cables.

Can I use a different USB cable rather than the cable that comes with the PowerCore 10000 Portable Charger?
Yes, other cables can be used to charge your devices with the PowerCore 10000. However, to ensure compatibility and the best possible performance, we strongly recommend using your device’s original (OEM) cable, a third-party certified (MFI) cable, or the included cable.
What kind of wall charger should I use to charge the PowerCore 10000 Portable Charger?
You can safely recharge your PowerCore 10000 in 6-7 hours using a charger with an output of 2 Amps (2A) or higher. Chargers with an output lower than 2A (such as phone chargers) will not charge as quickly or safely.
How long will the PowerCore 10000 Portable Charger take to be fully charged?
It will take 6-7 hours to fully charge the PowerCore 10000 with a 5V/2A wall charger (not included).
What devices are compatible with the PowerCore 10000 Portable Charger?
The PowerCore 10000 is compatible with Android, Apple and almost all other devices charged via USB. (Please note: if the device’s input current requirement is above 2.4A, it may charge slowly or not at all.)
Anker PowerCore Speed 10000 QC review
What an awesome little power bank: tiny in size, but with heaps of power and insanely fast charging speeds. Find out more in our Anker PowerCore Speed 10000 QC power bank review.
Our Verdict
Fast, portable, high in capacity and affordable. There are some boxes the Anker PowerCore Speed 10000 QC power bank does not tick, yet you’d be pushed to find fault with it at £25. A recommended gadget for the upcoming festival- and holiday season.
It’s that time of year when a power bank should top everyone’s gadget wishlist. Whether you’ll be spending several hours attempting to keep yourself or the kids entertained as you jet off somewhere hot, or getting washed away at a festival hoping to glean some comfort from trusty smartphone, a power bank is essential for keeping your devices going away from the mains. We review all sorts of power banks, and while you might imagine there’s not a lot of difference between them you’d be surprised. It’s not just their capacity or how many times you can charge your phone that is important: you should also consider such things as how many devices you can charge at once, how quickly they can refill their batteries or how quickly they can refill your phone, whether they are big and bulky or light and able, and so on (we cover all these things in our power banks buying advice).
So many of the power banks we see are basic, no-frills devices from companies you’ve never heard of, but they’re sold cheap on Amazon and they’re functional, which makes them appealing. See all power bank reviews
This Anker PowerCore Speed 10000 QC tells a completely different story. For a start, Anker is one of the better-known brands in charging tech, which gives that feeling of reassurance you require when buying a gadget online (plus it comes with an 18-month warranty).
But that name won’t mean digging deeper into your – right now you can grab this Anker PowerCore Speed 10000 QC from Amazon UK for just £25.99, and that’s very good value. (For US customers it’s available for 35.99 at Amazon.com.)
This is a recently upgraded version of the PowerCore 10000 – previously PowerCore 10000, now PowerCore Speed 10000 QC, which is indicated by the blue-plastic-pronged full-size USB port. The main difference is its inclusion of Voltage Boost technology, alongside Quick Charge 3.0 and PowerIQ. When combined the three technologies ensure that a connected device is charged in the shortest time possible.
This new version also comes with a mesh carry case, which its predecessor did not.
The PowerCore is also one of the few power banks we’ve reviewed to catch our attention as soon as it arrived on our desk (the Zendure A2 is another of our favourites). As a 10,000mAh power bank, we expected it to be significantly larger – Anker says it’s 27 percent smaller than comparable battery packs. Just 100x63x22mm the PowerCore is smaller even than Xiaomi’s impressive 10,000mAh bank. It’s sufficiently light, too, at 198g.
The design is arguably basic, but a power bank is a functional- rather than showy device. With its matt black rectangular design, tough plastic casing and smooth rounded corners, this battery will fit comfortably in the hand or in a. then keep out the way and quietly get on with its job. You’ll find four LEDs on top of the device to show how much juice remains (press the button on the side to activate this), and a single Micro-USB input and single USB output on one end. Also see: Best MiFi 2017.
Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 support means that if you have a compatible smartphone (typically flagships from 2016 or 2017) then you can benefit from insanely fast charging – up to four times faster than a conventional phone charger. QC3 is backward-compatible with QC2 and QC1, while the more recent QC4 is also backward-compatible with QC3, but even if you don’t have a Quick Charge-compatible phone or tablet this output is a fast 2.4A (12W). Also see: What is Quick Charge 3.0?
Refilling the power bank is fast, too, at 2A (10W), but unfortunately there’s no support for passthrough charging, which Anker has disabled because it can have a detrimental effect on the internal battery cells of the power bank. This means you won’t be able to simultaneously charge your phone and the power bank from a single mains outlet, which will be less of a concern when you’re at home but more of an issue if you’re staying in a hotel room with limited wall sockets (or limited travel adaptors).
You should expect between 60- and 70 percent efficiency from the Anker PowerCore 10000, which means there is 6,000- to 7,000mAh of usable power for charging your devices. Anker says the PowerCore offers up to four full charges, and that is certainly true if you own an iPhone or a low-end Android. If you have a device with Quick Charge 3.0 support it’s far more likely to be a flagship Android, however, with somewhere around 3,000mAh battery capacity. If this is the case you should expect only two full charges from the PowerCore – although still two very useful charges when you’re away from home. Also see : How to improve smartphone battery life.
The Anker PowerCore Speed 10000 QC supports auto-on, which means you simply plug in your phone or tablet and it will begin to charge. It’s incredibly fast and portable, and right now very attractively priced. Other features – such as waterproofing, an LCD screen, passthrough charging and even basics such as a flashlight – are missing, but don’t let that put you off what is a great gadget for the upcoming festival- and holiday season.

Anker PowerCore 10000 PD Redux Review
Summary The Anker PowerCore 10000 PD Redux offers peak charge rates for the Nintendo Switch, iPad Pro. And similar devices using 15V input. But otherwise it is fairly ordinary compared to its competitors. Putting much of its price tag into preferring the Anker brand over others.

First Impression
The Anker PowerCore 10000 PD Redux is the compact version of Anker’s 18W/10,000mAh power banks. The Redux model has a large, round button on top. Used for checking capacity and activating trickle charge mode. Unlike some older models, there are only 4 LEDs on the button, not 8-10. Don’t expect the circle to fill when recharging, the LEDs cover less than half of the curve. The top also has a grip-friendly surface. But the bottom doesn’t, lessening the gripping surface’s effectiveness.

Device Testing
Check with your device’s manufacturer to verify which charging standards it supports.
USB Power Delivery Quick Charge 4 Phones
- Apple iPhone 8/X/XR/XS/11/SE
- Essential Phone
- Google Pixel
- LG ThinQ/V30
- Razer
- Samsung Galaxy S8/S9/S10/S20
- Samsung Galaxy Note 8/9/10
- Xiaomi Mi 8/9
- ZTE Axon Pro 9/10
Using an iPhone 8 for testing we find USB PD phones will fast charge over the USB-C port. iPhones will need to use a USB-C to Lightning cable, not included. And Android phones will need a USB-C to USB-C cable, which is included.
For older and newer iPhones the USB-A port supports Apple 2.4A. An older, but still functional fast-charging standard. Older iPhones (4-7) can fast charge using USB-A. Newer iPhones will charge ~15 minutes faster using USB-C.
Quick Charge 3.0 Phones
- HTC
- LG
- Motorola
- Nokia
- Samsung Galaxy
- Sony
- Xiaomi Mi 5/6
- ZTE
Using a Moto G6 for testing we get normal charging rates. As no Quick Charge or compatible fast charging standard is supported. The USB-A port provided for the faster charge rate, around 10W.
Nintendo Switch
Works great for all model Nintendo Switch in handheld/tabletop mode. The rare 15V power profile support allows all model Switches to reach their max charge rate.
It will not support the Switch’s dock, as it doesn’t offer the required output.
15V Power Profile Support
A stand out feature of the Anker PowerCore 10000 PD series is the inclusion of 15V in their power profiles. Most other brands either stop at 9V or 12V. Which is fine for most devices. iPhone and Android supporting USB PD don’t need more than 9V. Smaller accessories stick with 5V.
The 15V is nice for larger devices, namely the Nintendo Switch and iPad Pro. Both of those devices accept and thrive at 15V. The original model Switch goes from 12W with a 12V option to 18W with a 15V option. Newer model Switches and the iPad Pro has less of a jump. But an increase in power max power draws nonetheless.
The 15V power profile isn’t enough to fully justify the cost of an Anker power bank. But if you’re trying to pick between it any other option it makes for a good tie-breaker.
Trickle Charge Mode
Anker PowerCore 10000 PD Redux in trickle charge mode
On the Anker, PD Redux press the button once to turn it on. Turn double press the button to active trickle charge mode. One of the four blue LEDs will turn green, indicating the mode is active. It’ll stay active for up to two hours. Or you can turn the mode off by pressing the button once.

No Fast Charging With Two Devices
The total output is limited to 18W. With no fast charging available when both USB ports are in use.
When you connect the second device you’ll notice the charging resets on the first. This is the power bank stepping down to a 5V output level. If you disconnect the second device you’ll want to unplug and replug the first. To make sure fast charging turns back on.
This limitation is typical of most power banks. The few I’ve seen which allow for two fast-charging devices are unusually large. There is a limit to how much current can cross its circuits without extra hardware. Which adds size, weight, and cost.
Most smaller devices will revert to their normal charging rate. Which will continue to charge the battery while they are in use. The total charge time for the two devices is about the same. Whether you fast charge them one at a time. Or charged them at a slower rate together.
Summary
The Anker PowerCore 10000 PD Redux has its pros and cons. Whether it is worth the price will depend on your personal needs.
Anker PowerCore 10000 PD Redux ports
On the upside, it offers a trickle charge mode for small accessories. Including Bluetooth earbuds such as Apple Airpods. It also offers a 15V power profile, making it a better option for older model Nintendo Switches. It includes a USB-C cable and travel pouch, but cable inclusion isn’t as exclusive to Anker as it once was.
On the downside, there’s no Quick Charge support. Making it less desirable for some LG and Motorola phones. Unlike previous Anker models, you lose fast charging support when using both ports. You will also pay a premium for the Anker brand and customer support. Worth it for some, but less so for others.
It’ll fast charge iPhone 8/X/XR/XS/11/SE, Samsung Galaxy, and Google Pixel. No fast charging for Quick Charge supporting Android phones.
All models of the Nintendo Switch can charge at or near their max rate. of an advantage for launch day model Switches.
Larger tablets, including the iPad Pro, will also take advantage of the 15V power profile. Though the 10,000mAh capacity is more limiting for those devices.
It comes bundled with a good USB-C cable and travel pouch, which can carry both a power bank and cable. Anker is renowned for their customer service. With 15V also supported on the input side you can use most of any USB-C power adapter to recharge it in a few hours. Including the Nintendo Switch’s AC adapter and older Apple USB-C power banks.
About Anker
Anker has U.S. based support (web, email, phone) and an 18-month warranty. And their own online community with forums. They are a beloved brand within many USB-C communities.
Bottom Line
The Anker PowerCore 10000 PD Redux offers the usual Anker quality and support. Including the needed USB-C cable and a decent travel pouch. Its 15V power profile offers better charge rates for some devices. But it has the same weak dual device charge rate as cheaper competitors.
Buy if you:
- Need to fast charge iPhone, Samsung, Pixel, iPad Pro, or Nintendo Switch
- Want to charge an original model Switch as fast as possible
- Prefer the Anker brand and customer support
Don’t buy if you:
- Need to fast charge a Quick Charge supporting Android phone
- Value price over potential performance drop
You’ll want a USB-C wall charger to quickly recharge this USB-C power bank. I recommend the Anker PowerPort III Nano.
