Using as a Portable Charger
USB-A
(1) Enter “trickle-charging” mode: Press the power button twice or press and hold for 2 seconds. The LED indicator will turn green.(2) Charge your Smart watch, Bluetooth earphones, or other low-power accessories.(3) Exit “trickle-charging” mode: Press the power button once again.
Recharging Your PowerCore
To recharge your PowerCore, plug it into a power outlet.
The plug may vary depending on the region.
When your PowerCore is fully charged, the LED indicators will turn off after 10 minutes.
Using as a Wall Charger
The PowerCore will charge USB devices first before recharging itself.
For the fastest and safest charge, use an Anker® cable, your device’s original cable, or another certified cable (such as MFi).
Important Safety Instructions
When using this product, basic precautions should always be followed, including the following:
- Store the product in a cool and dry place.
- Do not store the product in a hot or humid environment.
- Use of a power supply or charger not recommended or sold by the product manufacturer may result in a risk of fire or injury to persons.
- Operating temperature should be between 0°C to 25°C / 14°F to 77°F.
- Do not disassemble the product. Take it to a qualified service person when service or repair is required. Incorrect reassembly may result in a risk of fire or injury to persons.
- If the product is not used for long periods of time, you should charge and discharge once every three months.
- When charging a device, the product may feel warm. This is a normal operating condition and should not be a cause for concern.
- In normal conditions, the battery performance will decline over several years.
- Do not dispose of the product in heat or fire.
- Do not clean the product with harmful chemicals or detergents.
- Misuse, dropping, or excessive force may cause product damage.
- When disposing of secondary cells or batteries, keep cells or batteries of different electrochemical systems separate from each other.
- Be aware that discharged battery may cause fire or smoke. Tape the terminals to insulate them.
- The product is suitable for use together with IT equipment only.
- The maximum ambient temperature during use of the appliance must not exceed 25°C / 77°F.
- Naked flame sources, such as candles, must not be placed on the product.
- The disconnection from line voltage is made by an AC plug.
- In case of broken cords or plugs, the product must be disposed of.
- If you want to clean the product, use only a dry cloth or brush.
- The power supply is not intended to be repaired by service personnel in case of failure or component defect (the product can be disposed of).

The Anker PowerCore Fusion 5000 Portable Charger is a hybrid charger. By that I mean it can charge your devices and even itself from the wall plug or you can use the USB A ports to charge your device and the Micro-USB port to charge the battery function the PowerCore Fusion.

Anker PowerCore Fusion 5000 Portable Charger – The Review
The Anker PowerCore Fusion 5000 Portable Charger comes in Anker’s standard white and blue box. The front of the box flips open to show off the charger. Once opened, I found the charger and the includes nicely packaged and secured. The packaging except for the security seals was easy open.
First Impressions
After removing everything from the box I realized that this small charger is on the heavier side. But its made well. The plastic was hard matte black that I find with their other products to be smudge resistant and scratch resistant (it will scratch if you drop it or bang it around). The USB A and Micro-USB ports are protected but still easily accessible most USB cables. The blue status lights are bright but since their on the side I can place the lights down when charging at night or in a dark room.
Its slightly larger and heavier than my Anker PowerPort 2. Its a lot larger and heavier than my Anker PowerCore 5000.
Testing
All testing was completed outside of a lab and are real life experiences. Your experience with the charge may be different. Keep in mind charging times on devices will vary even if you have identical models. Charging times will vary depend on the cables used, the devices that are charging, and what apps are running (active and in the background). For these tests, I used the supplied 2 ft micro-USB cable to charge the battery via an Anker Wall charger, the built in plug and an Anker USB-C cable. For device testing I used a Samsung Galaxy Note 8.
I found the charger to be a bit on the slower side, but still fast enough to charge your devices while traveling. It does not have Qualcomm Quick Charge and my phone supports that service so I do not get fast charge with charger. It does have Anker’s PowerIQ and VoltageBoost so the charger does charge device at the fastest non quick charge option.
I did charge testing times as a portable charger…
- 0% to 100% = 1 hour 49 minutes
- 30% to 100% = 1 hour 26 minutes
- 50% to 100% = 1 hour 10 minutes
- 80% to 100% = 34 minutes
I did charge testing times as a portable charger…
- 0% to 100% = 1 hour 54 minutes
- 30% to 100% = 1 hour 42 minutes
- 50% to 100% = 1 hour 07 minutes
- 80% to 100% = 35 minutes
When compared to my quick charge portable chargers I found almost no difference in charge times. So the Anker’s PowerIQ and VoltageBoost does a good job at charging my Note 8. I also found charge times varied each time I ran these tests maybe by 5 to 10 minutes.
Does it Heat Up?
I’ve been using the charger for several months and it doesn’t get hot while charging when plugged into the wall. It gets warm to the touch. When using the battery to charge my devices, I found the battery doesn’t heat up.
Final Thoughts
This isn’t my favorite charger. Its small but bulky. But what I do like is that its a 2-in-1 charger and is a good option for travel when you need to save space and weight. Even with its weight and size its still smaller and lighter than a battery pack and a wall charger. Honestly not having a Qualcomm Quick Charger hasn’t been that big of deal. For some tests it was as fast my other quick charge battery pack while others were a little slower. I will be retiring this charger to travel duty and to my gear bag for work. Its a space saver and if I forget get my my wall charger and portable battery packs, I can use this one as a back up.
Keep in mind the Anker PowerCore Fusion 5000 Portable Charger was released in 2017 and uses older tech. That means it uses Micro-USB to charge the battery pack (or just use the built-in plug to charge from an outlet), Heavier/larger than new 5000mAh battery pack, and doesn’t have Qualcomm Quick Charger (some battery packs didn’t come with this option back then).
For travel and space saving needs I believe this to be a great option and have no issues recommending the Anker PowerCore Fusion 5000 Portable Charger. There might be some better options on the market now but I haven’t had the chance to see. Chances are you’ve been stuck more than once searching for an outlet to top off a dying smartphone battery. If you’re looking to avoid that stress in the future, a portable battery pack is a great way to give yourself some added peace of mind and ensure that your mobile devices are always charged when you need them. Even if you’re not using it every day, it’s a great thing to keep on-hand (and juiced) in the event of an emergency, power outage, or if you just need something to run your lantern off of at the campsite.
Deciding to get one is simple. Choosing which one to get, however, isn’t. Some might only be able to partially recharge your smartphone or tablet (or juice it more slowly than your wall charger), while others are able to quickly recharge multiple devices but might be more than you need. Read on for buying advice and things to consider, plus reviews of stand-out models that are worth your hard-earned cash.
Size vs. Capacity
When deciding on a portable battery pack, keep in mind when and where you’re going to use it, and what you’ll be using it for. If you often find yourself looking to top off your smartphone battery during your daily routine, you’ll likely want a more portable but smaller capacity battery pack that’s easier to carry with you. If, on the other hand, you’re traveling a lot or regularly find yourself far from a power outlet for extended periods of time, you might be more inclined to trade some portability for added capacity that can let you recharge a number of devices (even a laptop) a couple of times over.
Like your smartphone or laptop’s battery, a portable battery pack’s capacity is measured in milliamp hours (or mAh). And that capacity can range from 1,000 or 1,500 in the smallest, most portable battery packs (enough to only partially recharge an average smartphone) to tens of thousands in higher capacity units—the biggest of which can weigh as much as the laptops they’re designed to power.
Connectivity
Another important consideration when it comes to portable battery packs is connectivity. While almost all of them will have at least one standard USB port to charge a range of devices, many also have Lightning connectors for Apple devices, as well as USB-C ports for newer smartphones, laptops, and other gadgets like the Nintendo Switch. Some larger battery packs can even have a regular AC outlet built into them.
You’ll also want to pay attention to the battery pack’s power output, which can indicate how fast it’s able to recharge devices. As you’d expect, the higher the output, the faster it provides juice—given your phone or other device supports that level of charging. Chargers with a low power output (under ten watts) will charge your phone more slowly that your regular power adapter, while a higher output (up to 45 watts) will be able to easily charge most USB-C laptops relatively quickly.
