Anker power bank vs. Belkin power bank
USB connectivity and charging underwent a radical and welcome change several years ago as USB Type-C reached critical mass and became the industry’s most popular connector. One of the big benefits of the standardized USB-C connectors is the huge selection of portable power banks that most consumers can now use. Ranging from low-cost options meant for emergency phone charging to massive, heavy batteries that can run a laptop for days, both Anker and Belkin power banks have something to offer.
Anker power banks
Founded by a former Google engineer who prides the company on dependability and convenience, Anker makes a wide range of reasonably priced and feature-packed electronics. Its headphones, for instance, represent some of the best value in wireless audio. It’s made a wide variety of chargers and power banks ever since the USB Type-C standard really took off a few years ago.

It’s a highly convenient combination of charger and power bank, although it doesn’t work with laptops.
This is one of the rare options that includes an AC outlet and is just under the limit for traveling on commercial flights.

Belkin power banks
Belkin has manufactured a wide range of adapters, peripherals and wired and wireless networking solutions for many years. Now, it’s also gotten into the portable power bank game. With such a great reputation in basically every other area, it’s no surprise that Belkin’s power banks are of top quality.
Belkin power bank pros
- Highly reliable: You won’t ever have to worry about a Belkin power bank frying your sensitive electronics. They adhere to the most common standards and are manufactured using premium components and plenty of quality control.
- Moderately priced: A quality power bank from Belkin will most likely not break the bank. Even the highest-capacity models cost only around 50.
Belkin power bank cons
- Poor selection: There simply aren’t many Belkin power banks to choose from. The ones Belkin does offer are great, but few.
- Limited feature set: You won’t find many advanced features on Belkin power banks. For example, there aren’t any available that can serve as a USB hub in addition to charging computer peripherals.
- Not suitable for laptops: There are very few Belkin power banks available with USB-C PD outputs above 45 watts. In other words, most of them won’t be able to power a full-size laptop.
Best Belkin power banks
Able to deliver 7.5 watts of wireless charging, this is one of the most convenient options for owners of high-end smartphones.
It comes at a great price for the capacity, although it’s not powerful enough to charge a laptop.
Few other 10,000-milliamp-hour power banks are available at such a low price.
Should you get an Anker or Belkin power bank?
You can rest assured that you’re getting a dependable, long-lasting and feature-packed power bank whether you go with Anker or Belkin. You’re much more likely to find one from Anker that suits your needs simply because it offers a wider variety. However, if you find a Belkin power bank with the features you want, don’t hesitate to get it you really can’t go wrong with either brand.

Anker PowerCore Slim PD review: Simple, slim, and steady
The Anker PowerCore Slim PD covers all of the bases you want in a power bank. It delivers 18W Power Delivery in a light, slim form factor with very little wasted space. You won’t find USB PD PPS, but it’s hard to argue with the low price tag.

The Anker PowerCore Slim PD covers all of the bases you want in a power bank. It delivers 18W Power Delivery in a light, slim form factor with very little wasted space. You won’t find USB PD PPS, but it’s hard to argue with the low price tag.
It’s tough to shop for charging accessories without stumbling across Anker’s products. Case in point, the company offers 30 different power banks in its portfolio. Some offer wireless charging, others deliver 45W speeds, and several even have solar panels and built-in flashlights. Sometimes, however, you just want a simple, slimline portable charger that does the basics well. In this Anker PowerCore Slim PD review, we’ll see if this power bank ticks those boxes.
What you need to know about the Anker PowerCore Slim PD
It’s not the largest or the fastest, but today we’re checking out Anker’s 10,000mAh PowerCore Slim PD. It packs a USB-A port and a USB-C, which top out at 12W and 18W, respectively. Anker’s lightweight power bank measures 149.6 x 68.6 x 14.5mm and easily slips into a

Inside the box, you’ll only find the power bank itself, some essential paperwork, and a USB-C to USB-C cable. At a relatively modest 29.99 asking price, we can’t say there’s too much more to expect in the compact packaging.
The key selling point is all in the name — Anker’s PowerCore Slim PD is a great size for travel. It’s similar in size to a Google Pixel 5 and weighs just 212g. Anker kept the overall design simple, combining the charging status LEDs with the button used to check them. The all-over plastic design is relatively smooth, but the textured top panel offers just enough grip when you’re fishing through a backpack.
I think Anker also got the price just right with its PowerCore Slim PD. It will only set you back 29.99, a significant saving over Anker’s PowerCore III Wireless.
The PowerCore Slim PD offers solid charging support, even if the speeds aren’t world-changing. It packs Power Delivery in the USB-C port with Quick Charge 2 and 3 in both ports. You can use Apple’s 2.4A standard for your older devices, and 18W USB-C speeds are good enough for most accessories. Personally, I achieved 17.3W speeds on an iPhone 12 Pro, with a Samsung Galaxy S21 reaching 14.4W — nearly the 15W max you can get without having a charging accessory with USB PD PPS support (more on that in the next section).
What’s not so good?
While the 18W USB-C speeds are usually enough for one device, they won’t keep up when you need to charge multiple devices at once. The PowerCore Slim PD splits 18W between both ports, and I regularly found that the iPhone 12 Pro took the lion’s share. It grabbed between 10.5-11W speeds compared to 7.5-8.5W on the Galaxy S21, regardless of the port.
I also would not turn to the PowerCore Slim PD to charge a full-size laptop. It reached 14.4W Power Delivery speeds for my Microsoft Surface Laptop 3, which isn’t close to the 65W maximum. Overall, it serves best as a power bank for phones and tablets, though that’s true of any 10,000mAh power bank — look for something with a higher capacity.
As I mentioned above, this power bank supports USB Power Delivery, but it does not cover the USB PD PPS standard. That means it won’t get your recent Samsung Galaxy or Google Pixel flagship devices back to speed as fast as others. However, you can’t always get the fastest standards for this price, so this is less of a criticism and more a PSA for anyone with a Pixel 6 or Galaxy S21 phone.
Anker PowerCore Slim PD review: Should I buy it?
If you need a simple, slender power bank with Power Delivery, the PowerCore Slim PD is a great choice. It’s lightweight and small enough to slip in a or backpack, and there are no frills or wasted space. While the 18W top speeds may not be enough for certain USB Power Delivery PPS devices, it’s still a good power bank for most portable gadgets and accessories.
That said, if you’re looking for a 10,000mAh portable charger with a bit more punch, you may want to check out some of Anker’s PowerCore III Wireless (49) which adds a Qi charging panel on top and a handy kickstand to stream your favorite shows. Mophie’s Powerstation PD XL (25) is another worthy competitor. It’s smaller than the PowerCore Slim PD and still supports Power Delivery. If you want the very best 10,000mAh power bank, the Samsung 25W Wireless Portable Battery (79), you’ll be paying quite a bit more, but getting full USB PD PPS support, 7.5W wireless charging, and premium build quality.
Anker’s PowerCore Slim PD covers the basics with a USB-A port and a USB-C port. 18W Power Delivery should cover most phones and accessories, and the power bank is sized just right for life on the go.
Review: Anker PowerCore 5000 Slim Charger
We’ve reviewed other slim portable chargers in the past such as the Jackery Air 6 and the Viivant slim power bank. Both of which were great at doing what slim power banks do best, by being very portable providing and just enough powering capabilities to be useful.
Now there’s this Anker PowerCore Slim 5000 portable charger that is another runner-up as a slim power bank. Slim chargers are a part of portable charging tech that is growing fast because people want to be able to use a charger that is super portable and easy to use.
In most cases, slimness is defined as being very portable and having an easy-going user experience.
Let’s see if this PowerCore Slim is a slim power bank that can deliver a powerful charging experience while on the go.
Similar Power Banks:
Like most slim power bank chargers, this one isn’t meant to provide an immense amount of power. The power capacity is 5,000mAh but the actual Output power capacity that you’ll receive will be 4,000mAh.
It’s a pretty good conversion rate considering that other power banks of similar sizing have poorer conversion ratings with their capacities falling thousands of mAh below their original capacities. Even so, with PowerCore Slim’s 4,000mAh, you can expect to charge many smartphones once or twice depending on what smartphone you have.
If you plan on charging an iPhone 5, then you’re most likely going to get two full charges; but charge something like the Galaxy S7 Edge and you’re going to be left with 1 full charge and just a little bit more power to spare. For a tablet, we don’t see the logic of charging something like an iPad with this power bank.
If you do charge a tablet, you can expect it to charge halfway through. Overall, you can expect the usage of this power bank to last all of a single day or quite possibly for two days if you’re using it scarcely.
You’re not exactly purchasing this charger for its powering capabilities, instead, it’s the amazing portability. Which we’ll get to in the Design section.

Output Charging – 5V/2.0A
The output charging speed of the PowerCore Slim is quite fast, and we’re surprised because slim power banks are basically your cylindrical portable chargers but they’ve just been flattened out.
The fast possible charging speed that you can get is 5V/2.0A and as a result, most smartphones will be able to charge at their max speed, as long as they’re not Quick Charge compatible smartphones (Quick Charge devices charge at their fastest rate with Quick Charge tech).
This power bank does not use Quick Charge tech and will not charge your Quick Charge compatible devices accordingly. However, if you’re connecting any smartphone, it will charge as fast as it can at its standard rate. This goes for iPhones and Android smartphones.
For tablets, the charging speed is close to the charging limit of tablets at 5V/2.4A. If you were to charge a tablet with this power bank, then it’d be faster than 1.0A Output, so you can expect to charge near its max speed.
We’re really glad to see a relatively fast charging speed implemented with such a small power bank charger and we here at Charger Harbor hope to see more slim devices use a faster-charging speed than 5V/1.0A; just like this PowerCore Slim has done.
Input Charging – 5V/2.0A
Input charging is another aspect that surprised us. The usual case for small portable chargers is that they either have slow Output charging and slow Input charging, or they have Fast Output charging and Slow Input charging.
That’s not the case here, instead, the Input speed is 5V/2.0A, which is the same as the Output charging speed. As a result, if you use a wall charger that has an Output of 5V/2.0A or higher, then this slim power bank will be able to charge to full in 3 hours.
If you’re using a slower wall charger that has a charging rate of 5V/1.0A, then you can expect a full recharge in 5 hours. We recommend taking advantage of the 2 Amp recharging rate, because you may be able to use the charger again in a single day if it charges fast enough.
Size and Weight:
The form factor is the main reason why this power bank is made. It’s a flat power bank that is easy to hold and place nearly anywhere to be as portable as possible. The slim charger is 5 inches long, 2.5 inches wide and 0.4 inches in thickness. It’s also lightweight at 4.2 ounces.
Very similarly designed to a smartphone, this power bank feels like you’re holding onto a second smartphone because it’s able to fit into your along with your smartphone, while your phone is being charged. That’s the beauty of this power bank, you can keep charging your phone while using it comfortably.
A Slim Power Bank that has Meticulous Details
It has a very ergonomic design that is great to simply hold in a single hand while holding your phone in the other hand. Or if you’re talking on the phone, you can simply stack the slim power bank’s flat side against your smartphone. By doing so, it creates a very comfortable and seamless experience.
Compare it to holding one of Anker’s mini power banks such as the PowerCore Mini. Sure the Mini is small but it isn’t designed in the way of being used right alongside your smartphone.
The covering of the power bank is made of rubber, and this is another great feature because it provides grip to your hands and your phone. The bad thing is that the rubber covering can get smudges and stains quite quickly.
Also, since the slim charger is incredibly easy to hold and use, we recommend using a small charging cable because if you’re using a long charging cable, then it’s going to be an obstruction. By using a small cable, the power bank and your smartphone will be more in harmony during charging.
All the functional parts are on a single side. There, you have the Micro-USB on the edge, the USB Charging port in the middle, then there are 3 White LED Power indicators, and next to it is a power button.
The power button is mainly used to check the power capacity of the power bank because once you connect a device to the Slim 5000 it begins charging. If a device is not connected to the charger, then it will automatically shut off. So overall, the power button is mainly to check the power capacity.
The 3 LED power indicators are just enough to know how much power is left in the charger.
During the charging of your device, the LED power indicators blink depending on the capacity that’s left on the charger. When your device is fully recharged and not drawing a current, it will turn off. Also, when the power bank is done recharging, the LEDs turn off.
So the PowerCore Slim 5000 is what you’d expect from a slim portable charger. There are indeed other slim power banks like the Viivant Slim but the PowerCore does a great job at providing better design choices that make the user experience better in some ways.
Structure and Material:
Small power banks tend to have a robust build quality because their compact size allows the materials and pieces to be centralized into one location. The PowerCore Slim is no different with its well put together body structure.
Most of the power bank is enveloped in rubber and this is quite a good thing because it’s able to keep everything together and protected through the rubber layering. The limited functional parts is another plus since there are fewer pieces that can get damaged, this means the charger can be in more constant use.
As for Safety tech, Anker has not specified what safety tech they have implemented; the power bank does have certifications such as CE and RoHS and we think that there is indeed safety tech implemented with it. However, the power bank does tend to get warm if you’re charging a device that can take a high amount of Amperage.
So, this power bank should not be relied upon for its power. Yes, we realize that power banks are made to provide power but in this case, power is the second most important thing. It’s the design and portability that’s the most important.
PowerCore Slim’s design is flat and small, which is just like holding onto a smartphone. You can charge a smartphone while placing it in your or talking on the phone with it an ergonomic design that is contoured to stack up against your smartphone very smoothly.
As for the powering strength, the power capacity is enough to charge a smartphone either once or twice. This is a daily kind of use portable charger, meaning that it can power devices up to a single day but you’re going to have to recharge it nearly every night.
Slim-power bank chargers are paving the way for a better portable energy future. Normal cylindrical power banks are good but for a charger to be in the shape of our smartphone. The user experience can only get better.
It isn’t the most useful part of the power bank but it is the most used and we’re surprised by how good it is. It has an alright conversion with the real power capacity being 4,000mAh. There’s enough power that will last you either 1 day or 2 days before needing to be recharged.
The Output and Input speeds are both 5V/2.0A and this comes as a surprise but a welcoming surprise at that. Most smartphones will be able to charge at their max speeds and the power bank can be fully recharged in 3 hours if you’re using a 2 Amp wall charger.
The main attraction for the PowerCore Slim, with the keyword being “Slim”. The size and weight of a power bank, the charger can be placed in your while it’s charging your smartphone or you can be talking on the phone with the power bank stacked against your phone.
Its amazing ergonomic design and rubber covering are what makes it awesome to hold and the automatic charging and turning off capabilities are what makes it awesome to use.
The build, like most small portable chargers, is quite good. the rubber encasing makes it solid. The slim charger can get warm if it’s charging a device in need of high amperage.
Of course, this charge is reliable in the way that it’s slim and portable. The power capacity is small but enough to last for a day and the charging speed is better than most small power banks.
Slim portable chargers aren’t a new kind of power bank category but they seem new because they’re just getting started on becoming known. This is a good thing though because they may very well be the future of portable chargers.
This PowerCore Slim is a strong example of what a slim power bank is capable of at its apex. With its good Output power capacity, fast Output and Input charging, and awesome design that makes it easy to use.
This slim charger has done an amazing job at being easy to use while still allowing the user to use their smartphone easily.

My Impressions of the Anker 313 Ace 45W
The Anker 313 Ace 45W charger is targeted toward Samsung S23 Ultra and Note 20 Ultra owners, as it supports their fastest possible charging rate of 45W PPS (called Super Fast Charging 2.0 by Samsung). But it also supports the more standard 45W USB PD, allowing it to fast charge a number of USB-C devices. If you’re looking for a single charger (and are okay with charging only one device at a time) this may be it. And those desiring that with a Samsung or other Android which supports PPS should definitely go with this charger over a “regular” 45W option.
Among other phone chargers (typically 18-20W) it isn’t the smallest or lightest option. With both PPS functionality and higher power output comes an increase in size and weight. But Anker did include GaN technology here, which minimizes those increases. And while it feels hefty for a phone charger, it is a good size and weight among other 45W chargers. It works well as a home/office charger or leveraging its folding prongs for travel. It didn’t get a perfect safety rating above because it is not USB-IF certified, which is common among still good USB-C chargers.
I don’t own a Samsung phone, but I initially got this charger to fit in my Steam Deck’s travel case. It met the 45W requirement, Anker is a brand I and many others have used and trusted for years and is travel-friendly. For me, the PPS is incidental, but for Samsung owners, it should be the deciding factor for going with this 45W charger over its peers.
Samsung Ultra Owners Will Need a 100W/5A USB-C Cable
To get the maximum charge rate out of the Anker 313 Ace 45W with a Samsung Super Fast Charging 2.0 phone, you’ll need to use a USB-C cable that supports 100W (or 5A) of power throughput. This is not standard, though it is becoming more common. The 45W PPS spec goes up to 5A of current, while the 45W USB PD standard spec only goes up to 3A. All USB-C cables support up to 3A, but to support 5A, they need a slightly different build which costs a bit more. Without the proper cable, your Samsung Ultra will only register Super Fast Charging, not the faster 2.0 version it can support.

An Anker cable set for an Anker charger, and their New Nylon model is their best seller. It is sold in pairs unless you get the 10-foot option. But your cost per cable is lower than many other options. The extra cable can be used with almost any other USB-C device and charger. As a 100W/5A cable, it’ll support Samsung Super Fast Charging 2.0 (45W PPS). It will also support larger laptops and devices which use a 65-100W USB-C charger. The exterior is braided nylon which gives it more durability and lifetime bends. I use two of these in my travel kit and have been happy with the thinness and flexibility as a braided cable.

Programmable power supply (PPS) is part of the USB Power Delivery standard. Not all USB-C devices support it, with the iPhone being the best example. Samsung supports PPS at the 25W and 45W levels but calls them Super Fast Charging and Super Fast Charging 2.0. The names are just marketing terms, with the technology still the PPS open standard. Google Pixel, LG, Motorola, Razer, and Xiaomi also have phones which support PPS. The newer the phone, the more likely it supports PPS.
A typical USB PD charging uses a consistent voltage starting with a higher current (amps) and, over time, lowers the current as the battery charges. PPS starts charging with a consistent current and a fluctuating voltage for the first phase. Then it swaps to USB PD charging during the second phase. The charging speed is a bit faster during the first phase and it puts less strain on the device’s battery, increasing its lifespan. If your device supports PPS, then a matching PPS charger (especially at this low price point) is a no-brainer. But PPS isn’t so much better that you should stress over not having a PPS-supporting device or charger.
The charging rate between Samsung Super Fast Charging (25W) and Super Fast Charging 2.0 (45W) is not as significant as it sounds. The speed difference is only during the first 30 minutes. After that, they charge at the same rate. The 25W rate will get you 0-50% in 30 minutes. The 45W rate will be closer to 0-70% in 30 minutes. If you only plan to use this charger for your Samsung Ultra, and then to charge overnight, you could see the same results for half the cost with the Anker 312 Ace 25W.
