Both 27A and 23A batteries are normally manufactured as alkaline batteries and they both have the same voltage 12 volts. A27 is slightly smaller in diameter than A23, as seen in the image above. A27 would work in place of the 23A because they both carry the same voltage and height, and only their diameter is different where the 23A battery is slightly bigger in size than the 27A battery. The diameter of the 23A / A23 battery being bigger will make it less likely to move around.
